Harmony Water has been working with antique furniture since 1990. Before this he worked in production shops and as studio assistant to sculptors and painters. Currently he also works with theater production shops in the Newburg, NY area. He lives with his wife, Iulia Chin Lee, in Kingston, New York. Together they repair antiques, build furniture from the antique style and make miniature furniture in the 1/12th and 3/4 size.
Book Learning: Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Art History from The University of New York at New Paltz. From the visual arts study Harmony learned the correct way to build and repair Metals, Ceramics, Paintings and Glass. From the art history study, an understanding of styles and influences.
In the antique work, Harmony freely moves from bench to lathe, wood to metal. As example, a job may be as great as buiding many doors for a house renovation to remaking two Victorian twin faux- bamboo beds into one queen size and then lathe turning the curtain rods, towel racks, sconces, and toilet paper holder to match. A job may also be as small as rebuilding a dollhouse and the furniture to go with it. It may be an antique clock restoration, both case and movement, or simply the cleaning and restoration of the finish on a grand old piece of furniture. All in one shop, the complete restoration of the frame, finish and upholstery of a loved old rocker that had the battle scars of time and use.
